Sara Watson studies the comparative politics of the welfare state from both a macro-historical and micro-level perspective.  Her research explores topics ranging from the effects of a divided left on the nature of welfare capitalist development, to the relationship between rising divorce rates and the political gender gap, and the consequences of welfare conditionality on patterns of democratic engagement.
